The Calling

As my last semester of my college career was winding down, while I was beginning my search for my dream job. I was telling all my classmates that I didn't think I'd be comfortable teaching outside of the state of Michigan. Little did I know God was planning something MUCH bigger for me. It all started one Sunday afternoon when my brother and sister-in-law came over for a typical Sunday after-church-lunch. Katie, my sister-in-law, was talking about a family that came to their church that morning. The family spoke about their time in Uganda, serving the Lord through starting churches throughout the villages. At the end of their story, they shared that they were also in need of a teacher for their children for the next school year. Later that day, when Katie and Trevor came over for lunch, they shared with me that this family was in search of a teacher. At that moment, I really didn't think much about considering this opportunity, but I took the bulletin from Katie and set it on my desk. As the week went on, the bulletin seemed to peak my interest more and more as I walked into my bedroom every night. I had a strong feeling that God wanted me to make contact with this family. A week or so after I heard of this news, Katie informed me of another family she knew that was also in Uganda, in need of a teacher. I checked out both families blogs and I felt an immediate connection with the Fishers, even though I had no idea who they were on the other side of their blog and pictures. I contacted Chris and Michelle Fisher and from there, everything fell into place. I met the whole family via Skype and instantly became excited to start this new adventure with them. With only a month in time, God has connected me with a wonderful family, an opportunity for a life-changing experience, and a volunteer teaching position for the next year! I will be heading to Jinja, Uganda at the end of July. I will be in Jinja for almost a year, as I will be teaching for a whole school year. The Fishers have 4 beautiful children, each of whom I am so excited to get to know and teach daily. After school hours and on the weekends I hope to volunteer in the city. There are many opportunities for me to serve the people of Jinja, but my main ministry is to teach for the Fishers. I could not be more excited to continue on this journey, and I'm hoping with this blog I can keep you all up to date and along side me through it all. :)
